Hampi, an Ancient Ruined temple Complex – Travel Guide

    Hampi is an ancient town in Karnataka. There are so many complexes of ruined temple of during the time of Vijaynagar Empire and also the capital in 14th century. As per the Portuguese Hampi was a wealthy, prosperous and a grand city near river Tungabhadra and India's richest place at that time which attracts traders from Portugal and Persia. 




 Hampi built by Lakkan Dandesha who was a Chiftain or Nayaka under the king Deva Raya II. It is famous for the great stone art of India. Temples were constructed with heavy stone blocks which is impossible to rebuilt in current time, we don’t know how they made all of these architecture miracle. 

How to reach Hampi

 Hampi is good connected with country via Flights, buses and Trains. Hubli Airport is Nearest to Hampi which is around 166 km away, and nearest railway station is Hospet junction which is 14 Kms. 

Places to visit in Hampi

 Basically hampi is one of the best places to visit in South India. If you are an Archaeological lover and you are interested in ancient sculptures/construction and art, this place is made for you. There are many places to visit, few are below:-

Sree Virupaksha Temple, Hampi
Sree Virupaksha Temple is one of the beautiful temples of hampi. It is one in the group of Monuments at Hampi situated on the bank of Tungabhadra River and dedicated to Lord Shiva. This Temple is still in use since 7th Century (AD) (according to history). 

Matanga Hill
 Matanga hill offers beautiful views of ruined city and its beautiful landscape. It is also the highest point of Hampi which offers an aerial view of surroundings of Hampi. Climbing to the peak will take around 30 to 35 minutes. As per mythology, this hill described in the Ramayana as Saint Matanga's Base. 

Vijaya Vitthala Temple,
 Vijay Vitthala Temple located in Hampi is an Architectural Wonder also one of the most beautiful architecture in Hampi. This place is one of the best Craftmanship in Hampi. It is located near the bank of Tungabhadra river. With beautiful Stone structure and Stone chariot is an alluring art. There is no entry fee required to visit this place and it is the best place for photography for architect photographers.

Achyutaraya Temmple
 Achyutara temple was built in 1534 AD and located between Gandhamadana and Matanga Hills. Temple depicture Architecture of Vijayanagagra Style which is one of the most ancient and beautiful art. 



Lotus Mahal Hampi
 Hampi tour is basically incomplete if you have not visited Lotus Mahal in Hampi. Fine art of stone work describes beauty of lotus structured Lotus Mahal. 

 In Hampi there are so many beautiful places few are more imporant places are Hemakuta Hill Temple, Hampi Bazaar Street, Kedalekalu Ganesha, Hampi Archeological Ruins, Elephant's Stables, Monolithic Stone Chariot, Saasivekaalu Ganesha.

 There are many more places to visit like Hazara Rama Temple, Zanana Enclosure, nandi, Pampa Sarovar, The Great Platform, Queen's Bath Palace, Laksmi Narashimha Temple, Yantradharaka Hanuman Temple, Royal Enclosure, Underground Shiva Temple of Prasanna, Badavilinga Temple, Stepped Tank, Sri Krishna Temple, Kings Balance, Sanapur Lake, Pushkarani, Mahanavami Dibba, Sunset Point in Hemakuta, Sree Kodandarama Temple, Anjaneya Hill, Malyavanta Raghunatha Temple, Temple of Hemakuta Hill, Navabridavana, Cave of Sugrive, Manmatha Tank, Kampa Bhupa's Path, Krishna Bazaar etc. There are more than 100 places to cover, it is not easy for us to describe. If you are planning to Travel, then my suggestion minimum take 3 days to cover the places.



Things to Do in Hampi

Rock climbing,
Rock climbing is one of the best sports activity. If you want to do this then hampi is a perfect place. There are many rock climbing points in hampi that you can do easily.

Ride of Coracle, 
 It is a different experience of Boating; Basically Coracle is a big circular basket. Experience of riding Coracle is on next level.

 Apart from it there are many things to do like Cliff jumping, Fishing in the Lake, Boat riding, climbing on Matanga Hill etc.


Food in Hampi

   In hampi there are many traditional food to eat few you need to try, Roti bhakri, Badane kaayi, Shenga Ellu Chutney, Kosambari, Bele kaalu, Raw Salads, Aanna, saaru, Happala etc.
